The reason data privacy is so important is because laws and regimes change; what is considered ok today may be punishable by death tomorrow.

History is riddled with examples. Search for IBM and the holocaust if you don't believe me.

Maybe you bought too much gas, ate too much meat, used high energy money, made too dank of a meme, it could be anything.

This is not tinfoil hat stuff, this has already happened.

The scariest thing is privacy from AI.

Who knows what if AI tries blackmailing you using your own data against you?

This already happens in many situations, where AI uses your old data to decide if you're worthy for a job interview, a loan... To identify you with facial recognition at political protests

It's only getting worse

Might need to see if I can find a cheap #farmstr quickly lol

minority around the world understands this - >80% sheep follow piped piper

Many of the people that were early leaders of the French revolution got the guillotine too. Even if your side wins there will be purity tests for who supported enough and you might fail.

Voting to give power to anything that resembles a government is very high time preference.

If anyone wants a recent example, look into the Canadian Trucker Protests. Truckers raised money to support the protest, but the government declared them terrorists and froze the bank accounts of everyone involved. Even people who only donated.

and yet people down on privacy people and call them "privacy karen's"

I agree, but I would add that some of what the law punishes today is, in spite of that, okay.
