Nostr is about publicity, not privacy. Everything you post is public. Intelligence agencies around the world suck it up and feed it into AI systems that build dossiers about you minable with xkeyscore or whatever. There is no privacy on nostr. Nostr is about being public, being heard and not being censored.

If you want anonymity, you can get that with a VPN or with Tor. These solutions were purpose-built for anonymity. Get your anonymity from those layers, not from nostr. Nostr cannot provide anonymity and it shouldn't try to do something that it would fail at badly.

So this critique is a big nothing-burger.

Thanks for the reminder. I do think there is something to be said for making nostr anonymous by default by accounting for the lower levels of the network communication stack. Even through nostr is about publicity, privacy of personally identifiable information accounts for the human aspect of censorship resistance. There is a need to post both publicly and anonymously to avoid needing to employ self-censorship to protect yourself.
