Anyone know of some good ways of using a split keyboard with your laptop in your lap? The use case would be working on my laptop while sitting in a chair while at an airport. #asknostr #keyboards

Had fun today during the Rust intro talk at Tab Conf. It led to some great conversations.

I think the random timestamp is to thwart one’s ability to infer conversation between two parties through time ranges. However, I never considered the usability impact as you described. I can definitely see how that’s frustrating.

I review a list of strengths especially the subset that I really care about that make me feel awesome. I also remind myself that no one, no matter how amazing, comes out fully formed. We all have to start somewhere. Finally, I try to focus in on my interests and passions. We all have to pass through sucking before we get good so what matters are interests. Interests takes the pressure off and lowers insecurity by shifting your mind towards play and fun.

Amazing first day at Tab Conf! Got to nerd out about Nix and play fun games to understand computational game theory.

Anyone headed to Tab Conf know if there will be any nostr related events? I recall there being some last year but don’t see anything on the schedule.

Hello! This is my first time back on nostr in a while. I’m excited to see how it has grown. If anyone wants to chat, my interests include language learning, software engineering, and mathematics. I have been learning #Japanese for a while but am now trying to learn #Korean. In terms of artificial languages, I am actively learning Rust as I look for full time software engineering roles. Finally, I am going through the Proofs book by Jay Cummings to sharpen my mathematical proof writing and communication skills.

どうぞ宜しくお願いします! もし、以上の話題に興味があれば、ぜひ話しましょう。

Have you played around with something like Remembering the Kanji approach for learning kanji? I’ve had ups and downs with the approach but currently trying out a variation of https://youtu.be/SUVHMEUld4I?si=cogmsv8PE3S-2EHb tailored to Japanese in order to learn one onyomi pronunciation for each kanji I learn and to create a more predictable structure for stories I create to learn how to write the kanji.

I’m excited for your language journey. I was finally able to go to Japan last year after a decade of study. I found that if you’re in Tokyo you don’t need that much Japanese to navigate. For example, subway station signs are in English as well. I do think being conversational in Japanese helps in bonding with people while there. I bring this up because I held myself back from going until I felt “good enough” at the language, but now I think I should have gone sooner because I don’t think there will ever be a point where I feel good enough. There will always be more to learn.

It’s been an emotional day. I needed this.
