I have doubts about this list. Why is mutiny on here you can't even read from it? Orange pill forgot I was a member, don't know how to contact them, and I can't even connect to it's website because it's gateway timeout? Hehe, anyway..

Lists are cool and all, but the data behind them is inherently flawed in a decentralized system.

Well this post is missing the context of my original one which is to say I gathered this from kind 3/10002s using search.nostr.wine data so it is a rough estimate of the popular relays people connect to through the most popular clients. I also removed a LOT of old offline relays that people continue to have on their list.

I never tried to claim it’s a perfect list but the data is out there for anyone else to replicate I didn’t just make it up.

Just to clarify - I used the term “read” just because I wanted to be clear that these are not necessarily paid writers of paid relays, only readers. Not that they are actually “reading” the write-only mutiny relay.

I owe utxo’s relay an apology as it was down at the time I compiled the list so it was removed though it ranks up there. In addition, I suspect the mostr bridge numbers are underrepresented.

Ah thanks, ya context is good. All I'm saying is these stats are hard to collect and inherently skewed, wine search is pulling these lists from the 'top relays', then obviously those top relays are in the list. But are they really the top? Probably not, eg. no Japanese relays mentioned, which are probably pretty popular.

Basically I see a list like this and it just seems like a centralization feedback loop.

Most people (not ALL) who are on smaller relays are also on the larger ones so I still contend this is a reasonable sample and fairly accurate though obviously imperfect.

wss://nostr-relay.nokotaro.com is a Japanese relay on this list and many others appeared in the top 50. Several of the others ONLY allow users from JP to connect so they do not have very broad readership.

Hehe, ok ok, can we get a top 100 list maybe? Or maybe top 500? the R&P 500. 👀🤌🤙

How does one go about setting up a relay guys ??

I think you can use this service if you don't have a coding & CLI knowledge, for more details contact: nostr:npub1utx00neqgqln72j22kej3ux7803c2k986henvvha4thuwfkper4s7r50e8

I too would like to spin up a relay but not too familiar with command line. Are there any step by step guides?

I tried relaying.io but want to take it a step further!

Try nostr1.com ? It's got features more geared for public relay management. If you try it out and don't like it, jus feed me some feedback and I'll refund your sats.

Hey. Thanks for this.

25 seems like A LOT of relays to be using.

That lines up pretty close to what I’ve found: https://relay.guide/

Still working out the kinks but I’m trying to get popularity/activity by number of recent zap events.

I’m running the calculation a few times a day so hopefully it’ll be a close to realtime measure of this pretty soon.

If I want to connect to n relays, which combination will allow me to see the notes of the highest number of users?

I often watch this, and mostly correlate with the list

(but some japanese relay sometimes exceed the mentioned relays regarding the numbers):

Awesome!! I have been looking for a list like this!

wich one shall I use?
