What an incredible first operative day on our mission trip to the Philippines 🇵🇭! We had 4 great cases taking care of kids… 3 cleft palate repairs and a cleft lip, all under 2yo, and all a huge success! I’m fortunate to be working with such an awesome team (including my amazing wife). #FacesOfTomorrow

That's awesome! Are you doing it for free?

Patients pay nothing. I pay with vacation time and a donation to the organization 🤙

So, you are a pediatric maxillofacial surgeon?

Have you ever heard the name Joshua Demke from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center?

No, I’m actually a cardiac anesthesiologist. I’m a little out of my element here because this this a pediatric mission, but my wife is a peds anesthesiologist and she’s keeping me in line. We have an awesome team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses,

admins, and a speech therapist. I’ll ask some of the surgeons if they know him. What’s your connection?

I did some 3D cranial models of telorism in adults and brachycephaly in infants for his team. Part of a survey they wanted to run to see at what degree people became "upset" at seeing the condition.

It was Demke's position that parents are far too easy to cajole into putting their kids into those head braces when it's almost always unnecessary.

That's the short story.

Here's a couple of the renders I did.

You da man
