I’ll have to deal with this soon. Looking at my own teenage years, I think it’s best not to fight it - let them make mistakes.

The irony is that that's what I told him: “it's okay to make mistakes, it's part of learning”

But he doesn't want to make mistakes, he just wants to get it perfect right now.

Thanks! After writing an answer to you I realised that I should let him try to be perfect. That’s the lesson for me 😓

I was just like him. my mother used to say it was ok to make mistakes and that she trusted me and it made me feel worse. when I read what you wrote "let him try to be perfect" I dropped some weight here. maybe I thought I was stupid trying to be perfect and it made me feel even less perfect hahaha but when you say that, it's like I was not that dumb and it's ok to try to be anything. it's just not necessary. but ok. haha sorry for this comment but it really changed something here
