That was what I thought the first time I watched it, but I re-watched it recently and really changed my mind. (Although objectively speaking the first one is a better movie).

The second was very different - more whimsical, and less complex - but I got the sense that it was intended to more be playful, if a bit campy.

Having rewatched each (again) since, I find I enjoy both a lot. Just totally different styles
