Reminds me of early FB days when this kind of thing happened a lot. There was also a version asking for money to get surgery for a dog.

Definitely positive for me. The negative is how that account scammed millions of sats from folks who thought they were helping a little girl fight cancer.

There’s all sorts of scams on instagram of people exploiting cats and dogs too saying they need surgery and they are racking in like 100s of thousands of dollars.
ok I read more about how the scam works, they send a small zap to draw attention to their cause, and then hope to receive a larger zap in return. very clever and desperate.
This is exactly why we need to solve self-sovereign identity properly so that you only get one identity. You can't fake it by creating a new identity, and no one can pretend to be you. You have one reputation to play with, and that's your lot in life. You don't get a second chance. People might like to give you a second chance on individual issues, but your identity is your identity, and whatever you do lives with you forever. That's the only way to stop people from doing things like this. No one serious will risk damaging their real identity.
