“The socialist mayor of Toronto is set to implement a “rain tax” on residents. You will be charged for however much rain falls on to your property”

Me:

They are so desperate for funds……

Next year: the snow tax 🤡

😂. Then the oxygen tax.

Maybe a sun tax afterwards 🤯😂😂

😂 got to pay for all the spending some way. Taxes and inflation. We will be paying for Trudeau for 25 years, just like his father.

He has to leave at some point. Right? 🥲😂😂😂

Too much of a narcissist to ever leave. The only way is to get booted, and thankfully it seems as though Canadians are ready for a change. 18 more months though…….

18 months. A lot more taxes can happen during that time. Smh

Britian had this. Also referred to as window tax. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGE98o4WnnQ

Interesting. I read a little bit more about it:

“In Scotland, a window tax was imposed after 1748, and a house had to have at least seven windows or a rent of at least £5 to be taxed[10]. The tax was particularly burdensome on poor families living in tenements, where assessors taxed the residents collectively[2].

The window tax had several unintended consequences, including the boarding up of windows and the construction of houses with very few windows to reduce tax bills. These measures had pernicious health and aesthetic effects[7]. The tax persisted for over a century and a half despite widespread protests and was finally repealed on July 24, 1851[1][13].

The saying "daylight robbery" is popularly believed to originate with the window tax, but there appears to be no scholarly support for this claim[1]. The tax also inspired changes in architecture, with some houses being built with exactly seven windows to avoid the tax after it was abolished for houses with seven or fewer windows in 1823[3].

The window tax is often cited as a historical example of the potential distorting effects of taxation, leading to serious adverse side effects on social welfare and resulting in obvious and costly misallocations of resources[5][7].”

Daylight robbery. Literally

Ineptitude. I still think this can explain a lot vs malicious intent.

Yes. Daylight robbery via incompetence

😂 mfers!

😂

“These measures had pernicious health and aesthetic effects.”

One more way big wealth had the 99% kill theirselves off. How sad. 😞

Will the 99% ever unite or will we always allow the 1% to kill us off?

I dont even have a response to that 😂😂

I don’t think any sane person would 😂

Well you are welcome to visit we have free rain over here

😂 sold. We are on our way!

If we didn't pay taxes who would build the roa... I mean, sewers?

😂😂

All you can do is laugh.

Canada is going to shit and Toronto is leading the way.

💯

Wait until you change all those hard surfaces for vegetation and they come up with the "Leavesfall Tax" 😂

😂

Or you plant gardens, and then the bumblebee/pollinator tax kicks in 😂

Fake news? Or is it legit?

Fuckin wild the shit they come up with!

Yep, they’ve got to pay for their policies somehow!

Glad I don’t live there, never could stand Toronto.

Me too. I’ve been once.

I think I’ve been 2-3x. Just for the snowmobile shows lol.

Most by-laws (depending on your municipality it will vary) do require a certain percentage of hard surfaces and lawn for your lot. For example 70% lawn & gardens vs 30% hard surfaces.

I know some people rip up their entire lawns and replace it with interlocking pavers or concrete which would then send more water towards the sewers instead of permeating back into the ground. Those people should be the ones that should have the this “rain tax” imposed upon. They’re likely going against the by-laws anyways.

When I install interlock patios, walkways or driveways, I always try to use a permeable application so that water goes straight back into the ground instead of running off into the sewers.

This is the job I’m currently installing for a client. It’s all open graded base material otherwise known as 3/4” drainage stone. There are no “fines” in it. The base is about 13-14” deep. Any surface water that runs off the patio will filter straight down through that drainage stone back into the ground and then soak into the sub-base.

Every job is different, and if I can, I will use an open graded base material to help with drainage.

Looking at this picture, the water will flow from right to left once the interlocking stone is installed.

That makes completes sense, and I agree with you. However, it seems like a total cash grab and I think it would include many more people than those who pave over their yards.

It’s just ridiculous optics and shows how desperate they are, that they’re willing to expend political capital to squeeze people for a few more tax dollars.

Ps - nice looking work! I spent a summer installing ponds and patios.

This is actually my first job of the season. My body is hurtin right now. Been about 5-6months since my last job in October last year.

As much as I need to work right now, I’m kinda glad I got rained out at 10:30am this-morning 😆

Feels good to sit…

Wishing you a speedy recovery and good season!

Oh they’re definitely hurtin & desperate all right! You and I both know most people don’t pave over their entire yards.

It’s 100% a cash grab like all taxes.
