The whole Alby thing is confusing af. At this point I've not idea which wallet is my Lightning Node/Alby Hub or my Alby lightning address.

I want to get my inpc@getalby address working as my self hosted Alby hub address but this possible or do I need a new Lightning wallet address. It's all very mystical and my brain hurts.

Do you run your own node or are you using alby cloud services?

My own Lightning node, which it said was needed for Alby Hub but it appears to be a separate entity as far as channels and wallet so I think I now have three separate wallets running? Argh. I hate it when things say "click this to do this" and then a bunch of other shit happens.

In your alby account settings, you can set your address, mine is zaikaboy@getalby.com. You can link everything there too

You can use NWC to connect your nodes lightning wallet to alby etc...

See I think I'm doing that but my inpc@getalby.com still seems to be the custodial web extension and my hub is a different wallet. Isn't there an easy way to assign the url address to the hub and ditch the custodial wallet?

AFAIK, alby is ditching the custodial wallet, which is why they have set up hub. If you have connected your node (your wallet) to the hub, with NWC, then you're OK. Have you still got sats on the custodial alby account? If so, withdraw them to your node. Any zaps you receive you can see where they deposit. It should be your node

I totally get that, it’s just now I seem to have two separate Alby identities and there seems no way to merge the two. It even appears I have a different Nostr account with the new Alby hub. When I use the browser extension there’s now two separate wallets.

You've linked your Nostr in the setting? Only once, I take it. I've not used my browser extension since installing hub, I don't use desktop a lot anyway. Reach out to the team

I might just accept the inpc@getalby.com is toast. Maybe I can resurrect it when they shut the custodial service down.

I think I can zap from my new hub…

I’ve no idea what’s going on but I think I just zapped you!

Alby Account (getalbycom) and Alby Extension both need to be connected to some lightning node. The default and soon only node will be users own Alby Hub, after we replace custodial shared node down.

You can connect Alby Account to some node (like Alby Hub), to use lightning address of that Account with your node. You can customize the node in "Wallet configuration" on getalby.com/node

For each Account, you can freely customize your lightning address in Settings.

Nostr identity is a separate story: you can use your Nostr keys in the extension (independent from your Account), and you can set up NIP-05 identifier to specific npub on your Account (getalbycom).

Then, the extension can independently have many wallets, each of them managing one nostr key and one lightning node interface / wallet.

We know it's challenging, but freedom to link/unlink and customize comes with responsibility ;)

Happy to help further!

I believe it stays the same on your alby hub.

When I login to Alby I get warnings about the shutdown of the custodial wallet, which I’ve now drained but the address is still the same on the… you know what, even trying to explain is confusing me!

I think I’ll just chill till Alby close the custodial service and then see what happens to the inpc@getalby.com address. Until then I’ll just be hfthjudcbjtdcvytddrtvvcdfyffbjhyfrthhh35663?!!!£((;(66?@getalby.com instead

Cashu isn't fully stable yet, but I think it will supplant Alby and perhaps much of Lightning in the future.

I've been using Minibits on my phone and find it much easier to navigate, even in an Alpha state, than Alby with all the recent shake-ups.

Let’s see, I think I’m set with Alby now but it’s been quite a mission!
