We've got no snakes in Aotearoa New Zealand... and it makes me happy.

Are you serious?
Ok, I’m moving to NZ then…get your couch ready please friend 😂
I’ve got a guest room in central Wellington if anybody wants to come visit.
I guess if you don't count Winston Peters
Who?
Ah yes, New Zealand’s most famous native snake.
So which is less poisonous, Ardern or Peters?
Peters put Ardern in power. The vote was split between National and Labour and NZ First pretty much got to choose one or the other. Mainly because Labour promised him he could be deputy Prime Minister, whereas National would not do such a thing to us.
I mean Ardern was PM and Peters her deputy. I don’t understand the angry at Jacinda. Her covid lockdown, vaccines, and border control rules were much more MILD than most New Zealanders wanted. There was overwhelming public pressure for her to go stronger. Almost everybody I talked to her about the anti-vax protesters thought they should be jailed and tried for treason.
From the outside she was driving the policies, but I think she was actually managing a difficult to control situation and putting the breaks on the extreme measures most kiwis wanted.
I know #[2] and I don’t have similar politics, despite both being American emigres to Aotearoa New Zealand. So his views are probably different.
Yeah, I never was an Ardern hater. I felt like she came off as fake, but that's not a political issue. She seemed scared of interacting with actual people who might disagree with her, so she seemed to prefer photos with schoolchildren, and to control who got to ask her questions. Again, that's a personality issue, not a political issue... well, it is, it was the supression of a free press.
As for vaccines, I got it and I got boosted twice. But even as I did and as I followed the research, I already knew it was pretty iffy. I was against lose-your-job mandates from the start because I had already read the research showing the vaccines did not stop transmission. So what was the point? But the populous was very afraid and had swallowed a lie about the vaccines. Anyhow, I became friends with a lot of anti-vaxxers because I showed support for their position (once it is clearly not stopping the pandemic, it becomes a personal decision). What I learned more than anything else is that governments move very slow.. nowhere close to the speed of science.
I think the next unconference for Nostr should be in New Zealand!
I would definitely be there for that!
Many friends have been to NZ and it’s on my list for the next year, if not this year.
In all honesty, I’m just kidding around re politics.
I like to sit back and watch it from both sides, I do believe that during Covid it was extremely hard on every single country and dealing with something so unprecedented was always going to be difficult for everyone involved.
I don’t get too caught up with all the politics here in Oz, at the end of the day no one is perfect for everyone.
Now back to the original note, is ALL of NZ snake free?
Yes. No snakes. And the only poisonous animal on land is a beach spider called the Katipō and it is endangered. Looks like a black widow.
