I think i'm gonna get a cheap flip phone or some kind of burner phone for travel. We dont travel alot, but been hearing how "law enforcement" are getting crazy about forcing folks to unlock phones. #burnerphones #grownostr

I've been wondering if burner phone or duress password or setting up primary profile on above phone is better way to go.

Yes, me too. I use an Above phone as my daily use. But still, i always think they could confiscate it for whatever reason.

Look into profiles. You can change your phone to a different profile that has nothing incriminating (or private) on it. Then switch back when you board your plane or when you have finished going through security. The authorities may or may no be up to date with knowing about them, but I doubt it. The ones who would know are the ones who do forensics on tech, but not necessarily TSA or other airport security detail.

You can customize what's on the other profiles, such as limited or no access to certain apps, etc. You can even make it so you have a fake photo gallery and fake contacts. Anyway, YouTube channel with tons of GrapheneOS pro tips on it called Side of Burritos has a whole series on guest profiles and Google Play sandboxing: https://www.youtube.com/@sideofburritos/search?query=profiles

I had forgotten about this channel, thanks for the reminder. And yeah, i know about the profiles thing, its just that i wouldnt put it past those goons to just confiscate something like a phone.

Yeah, then I suppose a cheap dumb phone is a better bet for travel and put your smart phone into a Faraday bag and into your checked luggage.

Quite a scary thought! Privacy seems to become something of high value these days. Do you have any recommendations or positive experiences to share regarding privacy-oriented phones? Iβ€˜ve been thinking about getting a phone with GrapheneOS on it and use multiple profiles, but so far the hardware cost has deterred me…

Have you looked into buying an old Pixel on Amazon ($200) and side loading graphene... Instructions on graphene website πŸ™

Not yet, thanks for the suggestion! πŸ™πŸΌ

What I've been hearing is people coming from other countries having a lot more security on them due to new administration policies surrounding border security/enforcement. Unfortunately, I'm hearing these are also affecting some US citizens landing back in US from traveling abroad.

We're all going to end up with a normie phone and a freedom phone. I wouldn't take any tech I regularly used across the US borders in either direction these days.
