Does anyone else stick the headphone earplugs in and then never get around to turning on the music? I do that for hours, every day, and don't even notice. 😅

I thought that listening to music was helping me focus, but it turns out, that the earplugs themselves are the key.

True and real!

I go to coffee shops for that exact reason. Yes I love a cappuccino and a little pastry, but also a change of scenery like that can easily get me a solid 2 hours of near-uninterrupted focus.

This post discriminates against those of us with cauliflower ear 😭

it's a ritual, but probably also reduces the amount of sound you hear, especially frequencies that are alerting

Yeah, like stuffing cotton balls in my ears. I usually sit at the dining room table, and it can be like a train station.

I also notice, they all leave me alone, when I have the earphones in. It's my "do not disturb" sign.

well, it works... but maybe consider going further and putting spectral shaped noise on a low-moderate volume over it for extra anti-distraction benefit... a bit of noise in the same frequencies as the sounds that most often make you distracted increases the volume of them required to get noticed

Pretty much the only time I use plugs is when I go out for a jog. I can go for hours without taking them out after, just like my calf compression sleeves
