Yes, but it still doesn't work properly after 20 years 😅. I mean, I said this 20 years ago, and now seeing the same words outside of p2p, it’s kind of funny and of course a bit sad, but mostly funny.

nostr is not client/server, nor is it peer to peer, but it's more p2p than client/server

just like client/server doesn't exactly map to master/slave, but that relation is very relevant when you compare nostr to almost every other social network system

there is probably at least a second axis to talk about than the source/destination side of it, relating to control

Look at how we exchange graphics here, uploading images to image hosts and sharing URLs with each other.

Twenty years ago, I was closer to P2P than I am now 🤭

ah but actually that is secondary to the events we are sharing, and every client has to have some kind of internal event store, which is like a private relay, you see?

hosting that media is a harder problem than notes due to the amount of data involved and its poor compressibility - someone has to do all that traffic and storage, and inbound routing becomes a big part of this problem as well, though it is a general problem in contemporary internet

blossom is one effort in this direction, and really, there is no reason why media links in our notes could not be magnet links, also, just nobody has cared enough to integrate that (because it's more complicated than a webserver) and, just keep in mind it's not IPFS hashes because "iPfS iS a ShItCoIn" because it is used by shitcoins, ya know? cult of maxi. Quite irrelevant IMO, the real problem with IPFS is that it has a crappy consensus that scales poorly, which would probably make it a bit crappy here too, and it's a flaw in that protocol that shitcoiners don't care about because they actually don't want to solve any real problems anyway, just pretend they are.
