Was reading about the explorations before 1000AD when leif Erikson and Gudrid established Norse settlement in Vinland America, traveling from Iceland only using star, moon and sun as there were no compass. The Greek, Persian wars that happened before that. The Genghis Khan exploration in the 1200s and the discovery of silk route, Marco Polo in the 1271connecting east and the west. The 1600s and 1700s travel from Europe (Spain, France, Portugal, Dutch, England) to South America and the New World.
Ironically, today is Christopher Columbus's day. He wanted to prove the world was not flat and he did. Instead he said it was in the shape of a pear. And mistaken America for India. But somehow he, not being a Spaniard, convinced the king and queen of Spain to fund his expedition 3 times, and that led to the discovery and establishment of the New World
