Privacy is very important to achieve freedom

I have always argued that in medieval times there was much more freedom than today.

In medieval times there was no census of people, surely the state did not even know you existed, tax collection was difficult and many territories were unknown.

Now we are all mapped and inventoried. They know everything about you, there is nothing more enslaved than the national identity card. They have access to your bank accounts, they can seize them and all your assets whenever they want. And on top of that, you have microphones and cameras at home that allow them to know everything you do, say and think.

This is the key reason why the world is worse today than yesterday and tomorrow will be worse than today.

In the past there was privacy due to lack of information which gave us a lot of freedom, now we have zero privacy which gives us zero freedom.

In this dystopian world we can only aspire to digital privacy or go live in the forest and give up everything.

i say go live in havens and in difficult to access places, gather together, start building solutions for these things

i'm not even quite as far out as i would like to be yet but still good luck to anyone trying to come and give me an unwanted conversation

even if your neighbours aren't exactly aligned they are still neighbours in a fringe of civilization and know they need you as much as you need them when things go wrong, because there's nobody else around

True words. And all these so-called modern achievements have been ushered in for the sake of greater good. Yet what is the greater good? More precisely, is the greater good really what the general public perceives it to be? Or is it something entirely more sinister and detrimental to the individual? In the absence of a clear answer, enhancing one’s privacy (as far as possible) is the only path forward.

100 percent. had a similar thought recently traveling in a poorer country. It was and felt freer. There was less coordination and technology to monitor everything- because of the poverty. Yes there is corruption, crime and chaos…but less techno tyranny. I prefer the former.

I think there's another show in this post nostr:npub15879mltlln6k8jy32k6xvagmtqx3zhsndchcey8gjyectwldk88sq5kv0n , be a nice follow up in a few months on your recent "individual insurrection" podcast.

I think freedom tech like bitcoin and nostr will continue to grow in response to the invasion of privacy and government overreach. I'm optimistic about the future

I see you working and feel your pain, but Midevil plebs were free and unnoticed like cattle are free and unnoticed: whatever value you produced was just "harvested" by your feudal lord including your daughters. The king knew about the Lords, and the Lords knew about you. There is no better time for an average pleb to achieve personal freedom than right now with the tools being built right here.

They have always been able to seize what you can't carry if they knew about it & wanted it, in some times they just had to get a little creative to pull it off, in others it depended on how much of a force they could field.

Never fall for illusions, even those that usually work out.
