Taiwanese people are resilient and nonplussed by earthquakes.

Someone just shared with me a news segment where an older lady was interviewed about her experience since her building's exterior was quite damaged. here's what she said, paraphrased:

well, I was making hot pot and things started swaying. I thought, oh jeez, an earthquake. Everyone was telling me I should evacuate the building but I just made this hot pot!

What am I gonna do with this hot pot? I can't leave it. Who knows how long we'll be evacuated for. It would go bad!

So, that's why I'm down here on the street with my hot pot. Anyone who needs something to eat is welcome to have some.

for those who don't know hot pot is a communal broth where you add stuff in to cook like thinly sliced meats, veggies and etc. think fondue, but not cheese or chocolate and not dessert.
