I don't know how it ends for civilians but realistically looking at this, Hamas put Israel into a corner from which there's only one possibility: total destruction of Hamas and total control over Gaza, at least medium term. Anything else will be seen as weakness both by enemies of Israel and Israelis. And I think the rest of the Arab countries also understand that and already accepted it...

Agreed. I believe that was their purpose. Hamas wants Israel to react strongly, they are willing to be martyrs in order to try to provoke a larger conflict resulting from an extreme Israeli reaction.
