if i ran my own node and had my corn stashed in cold storage, how could i check the balance of my hardware wallet whenever i wanted from my iphone, through my own node?

zeus is a great option for lightning on iphone (all through your own node using tor), but is there an iphone equivalent for on-chain watch-only wallets?

If you can get your own Electrum server running there’s lot’s of options. BlueWallet is a great wallet on the phone and I think it has tor support

ahhhh i always thought of bluewallet as custodial (maybe because it defaults to custodial lightning), so i never actually considered it a viable privacy option - sounds like i need to revisit that tho

i’m just trying to take a lot of privacy focused steps with my setup - and i just want to make sure that the app would never accidentally connect to the public node (instead of your own node that you configured), and then it sort of “leaks” what addresses you’re wallet is watching

maybe i have that all wrong, but that’s why i liked zeus because it just doesn’t work if it doesn’t find a connection to your own node (which i like)

but yeah, sounds like i need to do a bit of research around running blue wallet in a sovereign manner 🤔

Set up BlueWallet or Sentinel to connect to your own node. Then setup watch only accounts (xpub info only) to be able to check balance and receive into those. Be aware of privacy risk if you lose phone though.

could bluewallet be leaking xpubs (if you setup a watch only wallet)? or is that unlikely / impossible?

I don’t know for sure. Perhaps use this setup for your cold storage.

For your ultra-cold storage, use tools (cold card address explorer, seed tools offline, etc) to derive address and only check those on self-hosted block explorer. That way xpub never touches internet.
