What can't scale to millions of musicians is transactions going through a single node and being served by a single server. If you have a website, you already have a place where you could host mp3s and an RSS feed. Every sovereign individual could do this just like everyone can host a website on the internet.

But millions of musicians aren't going to open their own lightning channels. You need a custodial solution to accept micropayments off the bat. This needs to be abstracted away from people if it's ever going to get traction. Eventually it might be something like ecash that is being used once tens of millions of artists are doing this, but to think every artist needs to be self sovereign to accept micro payments for their songs is a non starter... 😂

I think this is out of my depth technically. Self hosting would have to happen on an umbrel kind of thing and then having the bandwidth to serve many listeners at once. Personally, I'm happy to split a small portion of my sats for a service that does all that for me. But it's good this tech is giving people options
I promise it's not over your head. You have your own website! Putting that together is way more difficult. That's all you need plus a wallet, no Umbrel node necessary.
