It’s not common knowledge. I don’t point it out often because people think i’m just crapping on primal or something, but it’s a huge difference on how their client works compared to other nostr clients. It’s too centralizing for my taste. until there’s a world where everyone is running their custom relay, but thats not even spec’d

Not to say their approach can’t work, its just requires more money and maintenance to keep alive. Most other clients don’t need any supporting infrastructure: they will keep working after the developer dies, runs out of money, gets bored, etc.

Nostr doesn't require steep learning curve for just a user, especially since devs are trying really hard to explain stuff to newcomers, those introductions of yours is brilliant hashtag etc. Primal feels like another twitter, it will serve many, but if any hiccup comes, those users will be clueless. Requiring my info for setting up a wallet is nasty and needles move.

Some mindshift to understand nostr more is necessary though and might be way to uncomfortable for many.

Yeah I don't see how you pointing out a critical operational feature can be twisted to make out like you're pooping on the competition.

I think it's important. And if users (especially long term ones) don't know this, why?

It's an important difference to be aware of. And a lot of us less skilled in the art of reading code deserve to know this kind of information.

I'll still use primal to browse on my desktop. But it's great to be aware and know I might prefer to post using my trusty #damus client to know I'm broadcasting to all my added relays... Now on that note, I need to do something soon about over doing relays and probably just make my own at some stage 😂

Primal fans, devs, and investors attack me whenever I point out this stuff, it’s usually not worth it. I just stay in my lane and try to build my vision using better decentralized tech (nostrdb, etc). Its a bit slower to develop but hopefully I can reach the same quality of UX as their caching server all on the client.

I support nostrdb. Can’t wait to use BitTorrent to have decentralized video storage censorship resistant. The government keeps telling tech company to delete or throttle important videos.

Slow and steady 🐢

Well, anyone who looks at the relay settings can see it.
