Below is Aleksandar Svetskiโ€™s answer, as written in โ€œ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿญ ๐—ค๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€โ€:

Bitcoin is important because having functional money is the basis for a functional and scalable society. Human beings either compete, cooperate or coerce in their bid to make progress. The former are best done through trade, and minimize the need for coercion.

Trade requires a means for storing value, measuring it and exchanging it. This means, or technology, is called โ€œMoney.โ€ Finally, the better and less manipulable the money, the greater its usefulness, and the more mature, functional and less coercive the society.

Bitcoin is important because it is the best possible money. It is incorruptible, scalable and fixed in supply. Such high quality money establishes a framework for economic excellence and accountability in society. It both incentivizes economic progress and productivity, while โ€œlocalizingโ€ economic consequence. In other words, not only is good behavior economically rewarded and bad behavior economically penalized, but the actors themselves are more affected.

This means good things get better, bad things are quickly discarded, and eliminated and the necessary feedback process for improvement and adaptation is faster.

Itโ€™s hard to stress how important having a functional money is, for the world. The quality of world we build together will be night and day from what we have today. You can think of the current state as a bunch of blind men trying to build a house with an elastic tape measure. And somehow, itโ€™s holding together. A testament to human will. But add Bitcoin to the mix, and make it the standard. Well, thatโ€™s like a group of sighted men, building a house with a fixed and functional tape measure.

The difference in the quality of house that each group would build, is the same as the kind of difference a society will have between operating on the fiat standard, versus doing so on a Bitcoin, sound, fixed money standard.
