Is this supposed to be a repost?

Yes. On Astral it looks like one.

Does it show as a reply? It looks like a reply with an event mention over here

This is why I like the explicit kind (7), less interpretation between clients.

you know what, i'm starting to agree with you. is there a spec for the kind 7? is it exactly like kind 1 except with content preview data and kind = 7?

yes it's distinct from quoted posts which I think should be what you're doing here (kind 1). I haven't done a writeup yet but there are some examples on relays if you query them. I can do a writeup today to get some feedback.

I might do quoted posts with their own kind in the future (maybe with preview event encoded in a tag). I think it's just better to be explicit to make it easier on implementors and to eliminate ambiguity between implementations.

i think this would be helpful as well, though I would still continue to support quotes with kind 1 (incase people want to embed). not sure how much you gain with the preview event tag, since you have to query for an event regardless. would this have preview tag and event tag?

What do you mean you have to query for the event regardless? Damus doesn't unless you click on the thread.

i will take a look!

yeah thats how it looks on astral as well

This note referenced #[1] like 4 times for some reason

huh.. when I tagged #[0] in the post and continued writing, the @ and pubkey transformed into "hashtag[0]" so I deleted that and tagged him again. Did that multiple times so maybe that's why he is tagged 4 times

oof let me fix this so dup tags don't get added. I didn't want the full 64 char string to clutter the text box so decided to parse them as you are typing. It should show the tags you have added in a little 'tags' pop up above the text box once the mention is parsed/added

👍
