The lethality of the Spanish flu was grossly overestimated because of the extreme overuse of aspirin. They gave patients lethal doses of aspirin and attributed the deaths to the flu. That created a precedent which caused us to overestimate the risk of respiratory viruses and contributed to Covid hysteria.
