3. Radio is still a ripe territory for innovation. An amateur radio license gives you an opportunity to learn about radio and provides you access to various portions of the radio spectrum to become proficient, experiment and innovate.
RF tech is everywhere, in your phone, WiFi, etc. Gaining an understanding of how you can use this medium for your own needs is fun. Amateur radio has a strong cultural foundation of DIY. While most people no longer build their own radio, there is a bit of a renaissance with digital natives and makers exploring the digital side of radio comms.
