I’m definitely not what you could call a homesteader, but I like to add small projects one at a time to build my food and feed independence. We added chickens not too long ago and after seeing several of your posts about some pretty cool black soldier fly larva harvesters, I took a quick look around, grabbed some scrap materials and threw this together in 30 minutes. Now to see what our results are. #grownostr

What think you may need is an egg laying surface, like some corrugated card board or a layer on burlap on top of the material. BSF females do not lay on food they need a separate surface. Something like this 👇 five minutes to make tops.

probably not ideal, but cut up a DeWalt box that just came in and threw this together. I’ll add it in.

Might want to rethink rubber bands, they'll break eventually, use some of Jack's reusable cable ties or just string.

Probably a good idea. I’ll have to upgrade it.

How did this work for you? nostr:npub15879mltlln6k8jy32k6xvagmtqx3zhsndchcey8gjyectwldk88sq5kv0n has inspired me to make a side hustle, while dealing with Rabbit Poo and Worms I already have while building sustainability for the chickens I already have.

I'm trying to gather as much information as I can to prepare for spring and warm weather up here in the Northeast

The only BSL I raised last year were the ones that invaded my two worm bins. I am going to do it on purpose this year.
