So many people that live in strict-gun-law states or countries have this exact perception of gun-friendly places. From my experience, knowing that many others around you are carrying guns makes everyone more polite.

On the rare occassions where I open-carried, nearly everyone was WAY more polite to me than when a firearm isn't visible.
People kept gathering around me while shopping. I tend to shop by picking isles with no one in them, but I kept attracting small crowds. Later, I figured out they were staying near me for safety.
