The story behind this depiction of Jesus, known as the Divine Mercy image, is worth telling.

St. Faustina, a Polish nun, reported visions of Jesus in 1931. He appeared to her in a white garment with rays of red and pale light emanating from His heart. Jesus asked her to create this image with the inscription "Jesus, I trust in You." With the help of her confessor, Michael Sopoćko, the first Divine Mercy image was painted by Eugene Kazimierowski in 1934.
