The story behind this depiction of Jesus, known as the Divine Mercy image, is worth telling.

St. Faustina, a Polish nun, reported visions of Jesus in 1931. He appeared to her in a white garment with rays of red and pale light emanating from His heart. Jesus asked her to create this image with the inscription "Jesus, I trust in You." With the help of her confessor, Michael Sopoćko, the first Divine Mercy image was painted by Eugene Kazimierowski in 1934.

This depiction quickly became famous, particularly after St. Faustina's diary was published, and after Pope John Paul II canonized her in 2000 and established Divine Mercy Sunday. nostr:note1n5gnwx8tawp4qutswgtmsg6lx3pz66g5kr68e3qf4uepfh5a88qqyt2mku

Saw it in a church once. Big one. Stared for 20 minutes wondering why red and white. Also the choice of a black background is also cool, like the darkness birthed the divine light and love, allowed it exist
