Are there any words you try to avoid using?

One for me is "desperately".

I hear people use it all the time, "oh I desperately want to go there / do that / reach this goal..."

I've tried to train myself to replace desperately with the word fervent.

It might seem like a small change, after all what's a synonym amongst friends 😉

But for me, I just find "fervent" to communicate the heart in a, shall I say holier way?

Desperate exudes a negativity that I'd rather not be associated with.

A hopelessness that I'm not aligned with.

A despair...

Whereas "fervent" indicates intentionality, desire, passion, connectedness...relationship with that which I am seeking.

And since leadership = relationships, I'd rather rise to fervency than fall to being desperate.

What's a word you avoid using?

Love that.

Avoid? Adverbs in general ...

I fervently try to avoid filler words, such as: um, like, so.

That’s a good aim!

Because I’ve done speaking, I had to practice eliminating those. They are so prevalent in our conversations we often don’t realize how frequently we deploy them.

The tactic that helped me was slowing down my speech and allowing my words to catch up with my brain,

I accomplished this by pausing and taking a medium depth breath whenever I felt an “um” coming on.

As for “like”, in my writing I’ve trained myself to use “Such as” and as far as “so” goes…

I still use so because I like it 😜
