For as much as I like https://nostr.band/ I think it will be sad if we end up with a handful of search engines indexing the entirety of the Nostr public network. If Nostr is successful it will be hard for hobby search engines to exist, right? The amount of stuff will be too huge.

Does it make sense or does it scale to have search engines that prune content and only keep references? Or search engines that only index content from the last year from a set of relays? Or only from a set of public keys according to some algorithm? I don't know.

So you said you like nostr.band?

Seriously though, I think search is a problem that will inevitably result in winner-take-all solution. Event if we built a winning 'decentralized' search engine w/o a single corporation to control it, it would still be a single algo that everyone uses.

The only thing that makes me less sad about it would be that we have LN now, and the winners might have a non-ads based business model, which would in theory work better for the world.

But that's all long-term, and meanwhile we might have many years of more diversity and fun.

I like nostr.band mate, it’s a fantastic project 🤙

Find it is the best way to share posts externally too, like showing Lyn’s rant got 600k Sats to the muppets on Twitter who are now moving to Substack instead.

i redirect https://nostr.bacot.web.id to my profile on nostr.band, id rather show a link than a long npub, maybe a link shortner would be cool

I used nostr.band to search for advices, it's cool and useful.🤙
