I don't want to build the next Netscape I want to build the next Unix. But you will probably be at me to it. ChromeOS kind of has the right ideas but is built with the wrong underpinnings. Make it a personal p2p distributed VM and the stuff you can build is endless. Webassembly/Wasi is a good candidate for V1. It just needs an interface.

I can stomach building a browser but os might be a bit much. Keeping it simple for now. I want something i can actually ship

Yes, but a browser is just a VM. So eventually you or someone else will strip out Linux to just boot to your browser and viola! A new OS.

I’m sure ill end up with a process per tab architecture like web browsers eventually 😅

You aren't using tokio for it now?

Not exactly separate processes but good enough.

Ah you are, indirectly for the GUI via this poll-promise crate. Have you liked egui? I have to pick something eventually.

yeah egui is great. very flexible

we have tokio for threadpool async stuff but its probably overkill. works great for loading images I guess.

It will happen “again.” Favorite OS that didn’t make it back from its revival, BeOS, had this… my goodness was it a stable, fun, and smartly-thought-out OS. What it wasn’t was “marketable” unfortunately 😞

Per process architecture though… 🤔 a shape of looking at modern SoCs could point to this
