Lessons from handstand practice:
Practice makes progress
Practicing just 10 minutes a day followed by video analysis of what is working and what needs attention, can result in rapid progress.
Bringing the dhristi (gaze) inwards helps to setup the internal alignment. This brings effortlessness to the pose and will enable a sensation of floating on your breath.
Being present in the moment without worrying about the future (moving away from the wall), makes the practice a lot more fun.
