we were talking finances at work recently…

I was pleasantly surprised at how many of my colleagues actually paid attention when I brought up #Bitcoin and actually seemed to understand my reasoning.

I also became profoundly concerned once I learned how many of them still carry around $250,000-$500,000 of student loan debt.

debt is a shitcoin. obliterate it.

Who. That is an unbelievable amount of student debt.

Physicians (undergrad + medical school + interest).

Docs, there's no subsidies for post secondary school in USA. A common practice was to claim bankruptcy then start your own practice.

Can’t discharge the student debt with bankruptcy in 🇺🇸.

The best part is that we get to do 3-7 years of post-graduate training, make in the ballpark of minimum wage, and for all those years the interest gets to accrue.

Nuts.

This + taxes keeps the majority of us from rage quitting and jumping off the sinking ship tho.

indentured servitude

Adjacent to that. I always refer to us as serfs while at work.

Does it keep them working in the USA? We have a massive brain drain here once they are learned

Yes bc the 🇺🇸 is one of the only places you have a snowballs chance in hell at making enough money to payback that debt even after factoring in taxes.

Holy shit

I have met folks in my field with higher numbers than that.

Debt slaves 😬

Serfs ser 😆

That’s a lot in student loans. School is so incredibly expensive. Good grief.

I mean it really is, but doesn’t have to be as extreme as it is.

I was borderline transiently homeless at times and had to struggle with deciding to pay rent v food on occasion. Lived in cramped situations with way too many roommates, etc.

Most people just live in a nice/safe place, went on vacation, and used the loans to subsidize their lifestyle to some degree.
