To me they are both encrypted messages hosted on a server somewhere.

I like the idea of encrypted nostr events on a private relay. if the relay is shut down , we can pack and move to a new one.
I don’t know what telegram used for encryption but signal uses double ratchet which sounds legit
Except that signal is very likely going to be compromised. And it's still not easy enough to sign up without using a phone.
No we’re implementing MLS which is a more scalable group protocol that works better in a distributed network.
