is any current/recent state-head anywhere close to the caliber of Marcus Aurelius?

Who was the most recent {state,industry}-head to have that kind of self-awareness/introspection?

Probably have to go back to Abraham Lincoln as a US state leadership example, but also lead during a challenging time.
