Reformed aversion to icons has nothing to do with this. It is a conviction about how the 2nd commanment ought to properly be applied to worship and life.

It is also a recognition that while God has a right to create things in his image, such as mankind in general and the incarnation in perfect union of the divine and human natures of Christ, we as creatures do not have that right.
