Shoes are especially interesting. They've been around for tens of thousands of years. That's long enough to develop adaptions. Though there are some societies without. Not with sidewalks though, let alone sidewalks drug needles.

Cloths have been around for a very long time too, at least in cold climates. Again probably long enough to adapt in some way. It took only a few thousand years to adapt to alcohol and dairy.
