This is an AWESOME feature of Nostur. But the prev pic dot is too small to be visually useful. Nice if it could be “tapped” to expand. … also might be nice to have prev name saved (kind0 petname?)

We all want it all. Lol

Fact is, I dont “clear out” these prev name notices. I leave them in place as a reminder. Just saying.

Yes that’s also how I use it.

“AKA” label could replace “previously known as” … and the field could simply be persistent (and editable)?

(Nobody uses kind3 petname field …. Not because it’s not useful but because the “use case” hasn’t been cracked. Storing a “previous name” is one real world use case.)

Nice, but, given that kind0 events are replaceable, the old username may disappear from most relays.

In fact, it should disappear from all relays that accept the new event.

yes the old name disappears, thats why this feature exists.

I don't get it.

Where does it even retrieve it from, if it's no longer on relays?

So does email. 10 years ago when fiatjaf joined the ripple users list he introduced himself as Giovanni Parra, and that was the display name on his email. We all called him Giovanni for years. Same on other places such as github issues, etc. He then changed his display name to fiatjaf, and we all called him fiatjaf, after that. Is someone wants to use a real name let them. If someone wants to use an alias, let them. Protocols working as expected.

This feature is not in place to prevent or punish nym changes, but more to keep other users informed of the changes (assuring that it’s the same nym they knew before) … cause people DONT think to double check npubs or Nip05 addresses and wonder “why is this person in my timeline?”.

If that's the purpose, how long does the notice stay on before going away permanently?

Until you dismiss (x) the notification.

it stays until you tap the 🅧 next to it

That's very good then. Checks out!

But not on the post itself …

a personal note would kill 2 birds with one stone
