i use mobile data as primary internet. i checked out starlink, but the modem uses 116watts continuous. that would require a 2.8 kilowatt hour battery just to run internet, plus the panels to charge it.

i had to find a workaround to download podcasts and videos on restricted data.

this setup works 😃

how long have you been off grid? based on your tech setup I’d presume you work in technology - and you do that off grid? impressive. I’ve recently begun down the solar rabbithole myself, cleaning up the system that came in my camper.

weve been fully off for…like 3 years i think? something like that.

No, i don’t officially work in tech. though i probably should šŸ¤“.

just unusually nerdy and into all things ā€œLibreā€.

Love the camper panels thing.

Store that power!

Ive seen a couple people build a custom alternator bracket to install a second alternator that only charges the camper storage battery.

although the most punk rock thing i saw was a modified small lawnmower with reversed circuitry turning it into a generator. they mounted it on a styrofoam/palette wood float with a small paddle waterwheel attached to the blade drive. they tied lines over a river and dropped it in. instant energy.
