Ah, a forum site called "WitCoin" is the original zap inventor by the looks of it. It dates all the way back to 2011!

I believe zaps even pre-date SN but I wasn’t aware of them at the time.
In 2014, as I was told, someone did them onchain! Zapread.com also might’ve existed before sn (or came into existence at roughly the same time) but I think they zapped “tickets.” And nostr:npub1yxp7j36cfqws7yj0hkfu2mx25308u4zua6ud22zglxp98ayhh96s8c399s implemented a zap voting system for nostr:npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev before SN too I think.
