I am suuuuuper tempted to buy a Pixel Fold (and run GrapheneOS of course) but I'm curious if anyone has owned one for a few months and can weigh in on durability.

I'm currently typing on a Galaxy Z Fold 3 which I bought close to release. It was a great phone until after a year of normal use, a huge noticeable line formed down the middle of the screen protector you can't remove. It's also got a load of dust under it.

Nothing is mechanically broken but this has ruined use of the phone as it became noticeable even with the screen on on very quickly once it started.

From the reviews I'm reading, the Pixel Fold also requires an always applied screen protector, but the design of the folding mechanism is slightly different and ofc a few years newer than my Samsung so is it any better?

I'm not really interested in tests like this where people intentionally try to damage it. I'm more interested in what to expect in normal wear and tear from regular usage.

I expect foldables to be more delicate than normal phones because they're still young technology. But I wanna know if the crease will ruin the inner screen over time. That can only be answered by someone who has lived with the phone for a bit.

Fair enough, but he does compare it to other brands and honestly I think his tests have merit to them, it just applies a whole year and a half worth of accidental damage in one day.

Oh yeah I'm not saying stress tests have no merit. They absolutely do.

But in this particular case I expect a foldable to be a delicate device. And the crease is something that started getting worse ever so slightly after about six months on my Samsung, then after another six months it was just fucking horrible.

A lot of that is things like collecting dust over time and wear and tear on the plastic screen protector over the course of normal use. If this is not fixed yet I can't justify the $1.8k price of a foldable. Rather use that money to stack sats.

Look at this shit.
