I wouldn't call Z-A an action RPG, but that's probably what it is. At the end of the day, different from Azure, you're still just standing there inputting commands for a single Pokémon. It’s pretty mindless, honestly, even more so than the traditional turn-based format. There’s not much you can do with this new format, since the gameplay is already barebones. If the combat had any real depth, maybe it could make something out of it, like combos.
By the way, my reasoning being that calling anything in this game "action" is an insult to action itself
I see that hostile pokemons can attack your trainer, can it actually kill or KO your trainer ?
It can KO, but it's just a punishment for not being able to sneak and capture the Pokemon, to force you into battle instead of running away
