I think there is also a practical desire to have something for people to link to eg along side:

But it is confusing that nostr is not whatever is being linked to, it will more than likely just be a microblogging client on nostr. So you could have the client logo there instead? But perhaps that is confusing for someone just looking for a quick way to connect, and you want something universal and immediately identifiable? Maybe none of this matters tho ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯ lol

exactly my point! people are trying to come up with "the logo" for nostr without really understanding how it will be used.

I'm not against logos and brands for nostr apps and products. all of those things will need identifiable symbols to represent them.
