That’s not actually the trust and safety I’m talking about. Nostr has very few women as active users, in no small part because when women post an innocent selfie they get death and rape threats. Even if there isn’t that extreme reaction we still have people questioning their very existance like the trolls that claim they’re not actually a woman.

When we interview people to understand why they’re not using Nostr, that stuff comes up a lot. People, especially women, don’t want to be harassed and stalked. It doesn’t feel fun and comfortable. They’ve already chosen to use other platforms which are safer.

Nobody is proposing that we be able to ban accounts. More social media without the ability to have boundaries is like living in a glass house with no lock on the front door. I can close the front door of my house, choose I invite over, and generally control my personal space. My preventing you from moving in to my house or crashing a dinner party is not censoring you. It’s saying I don’t have to share with you or listen to you.

Also of course fuck the state and giant corporations, i dont want them seeing everything i say and do either.

Well said, however as an active female on Nostr I have never received any death or rape threats at all. But even if I did, it’s not something that would bother me either.

I can understand why other females would be upset and bothered by it though.

You can always get Roger involved, Marie. 😆

Perhaps they’ve seen Roger and that’s why they leave me alone? 🦘😂

Well, he scares the hell out of me and I bear no ill will or malfeasant intent!

Yes. I have always (since I onboarded Mayday) felt a warm fuzzy #Nostr; never a stalkerish vibe, but then I’m one of the older, long-married #bitcoiners on here, and outside the realm of the meat-space, carnivore juju.

OK, thanks for that. I can see how this idea of safety might be good to have for people.

Here's how I think about it:

I certainly wouldn't want my kids getting death threats on nostr.

But once they were adults, if those death threats bothered them even a little I'd think I'd failed as a parent.

I'm not saying that some people don't belong here or anything, just that the issues are too big to be solved by "safety" features on an internet protocol.
