I got served a big slice of humble pie in my second session- going straight down a line is apparently a huge issue for me. The performance requirement for SSI freedive is 10m- which I can only seem to get from an angle (slower descent).

The skill requires Frenzel equalization since you are completely upside down, which is enabled by a relaxed body position with a tucked chin. I struggle HARD with this during rapid descents (a certain descent pace is required to keep the balance/position).

If I choose to continue with this sport, I’ll need to do something I’ve never really been able to do in any physical activity: completely surrender and trust the medium.

Or more poetically: if I don’t listen to and fully trust the ocean, she will make me deaf.

I was just diving in the tulum cenotes last week!! Beautiful place to learn. People don’t realize how many foreign sensations depth creates for your body! Lots of technique to learn as well, and always better to be humbled than hurt yourself šŸ˜‰šŸ™šŸ¼ ENJOY!!

Oh wow we just missed you😮

It’s so beautiful, and the perfect place to learn too. Fresh warm water, no waves or tide, easy entries… thought of all places it would be the place I’d figure it out lol. I’ll keep at it- agreed… so much to learn
