Wanted to know the diameter of the flush mount part of a light fixture in my ceiling, so I wrapped it in a USB cable, pinched off the length of the circumference, and measured that with my straight tape measure. Somewhat proud that I still remembered how to math out the diameter without any googling of formulas. The result was what I expected!
