Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the world after Mandarin Chinese so most people in Spain don't learn English, they don't need it.
That makes sense. If you can speak Spanish you can get by in Spain and in most of the Americas.

yep, and knowing it makes learning other romance languages easier. if you know Spanish you can understand most of Portuguese and Italian.
I did find my Spanish knowledge somewhat helpful in Italy!
