i wonder if any pleb that got into mining in the last two years is going to break even in dollar terms let along bitcoin terms

Only in locations with the cheapest energy. I don't expect to.

When your heating unit goes out & it's dramatically cheaper to replace it with a couple of miners instead of a new unit, & now you're collecting sats while heating, basically no way to lose.
