Well.. in nostr you can also do Proof of Work for notes.
I could write a client that only accepts those PoW notes. Spam would be way less then because an attacker would need way more power to spam

i'm just telling you it's not gonna limit spam, if there's value in the spam above the cost of computation it will lead to spam crowding out the non-spamming users
GPUs are pretty cheap and can crunch hashes for notes at supendous speeds and unless regular users are doing this they won't get a word in edgewise

And don't get me wrong. I think we are in the same boat like most (or all?! :D) of us are.
Of course it can't prevent all spam messages.
But it would blocks a lot of shitload.
It would also block a lot of "legit" shitload.
Both sides have their faces.
But at the moment I don't care about that too much.
