Gerry Hassan on songs and Scotland.

This reminds me of first hearing The Proclaimers' "Throw the 'R' Away" in London, one Saturday in 1987. I'd already spent two years in England frequently being reminded of my Scottish accent and (inevitably) Hadrian's Wall.

I struggle to remember any other song that has had such a profound impact on me. It was a rallying cry, and I was determined never to lose my accent. It had a profound impact on me and my sense of identity.
